Pasikudah and Kalkudah Beach
Located on the East coast of Sri Lanka, Pasikudah beach and kalkudah beach are both located within a stone’s throw of each other. Where else in Sri Lanka are you going to find two fantastic beaches such as this so close together? The beaches are located 34km North of Batticaloa, these beaches are different to each other.
Pasikudah is one of the best beaches in Sri Lanka to go to if you are looking for luxury resorts, while Kalkudah, just 2km away is deserted except for the fishermen that ply their trade from its sandy shore. Rent a car, take the bus or train to get to the closest town; Valachchenai, to then access these beaches from there.
Kalkudah beach’s natural beauty is unsurpassed. It’s wide, sandy expanse goes for as far as the eye can see. Kalkudah’s soft sands are lapped by a welcoming blue ocean, watch out of the occasional interest piece of detritus that will mark the area.
Pasikudah beach is a glorious crescent shaped stretch of land just as wide and beautiful as Kalkudah beach. It has been made into a special economic zone by the government and thus boasts some of the most luxurious villas and resorts to stay in in the area. Both beaches are fantastic for relaxing and soaking up some fun.
This area also has a traumatic history, having being affected by the Sri Lankan civil war as well as the asian tsunami of 2004, you can still see remnants of these impacts on the landscape. The East end of Pasikudah beach is popular with local tourists, so it is a great way to interact with them and gossip a little with an ice cream under the shade.
